Tonka FR Recycled Flame-Retardant Upholstery Fabric
Tonka FR is a sustainability-led FR Uni with an unusual property — both fibres are recycled: 51% recycled olefin paired with 49% recycled polyester, totalling 100% recycled content in a certified inherent-FR cloth. The Uni weave has a salt-and-pepper two-tone micro-texture from blending the two yarn colours, which adds visual depth without committing to a pattern. EN 1021, IMO Part 8 and C&M certified. 40,000 Martindale rubs (Class SC), 395 g/m² on 140 cm. 12 colours, 72 €/m — a competitive price point for a fully-recycled FR cloth.
Description
Tonka FR answers a specifying question that comes up in projects with high sustainability targets: can a cloth deliver 100% recycled content and still be certified-FR for hospitality? Yes. Most “recycled” FR fabrics carry a recycled fraction (Cassia FR is 55% recycled olefin, Axium FR is ~34% recycled, Dolomite FR is 69% recycled) but pair it with a virgin-fibre carrier. Tonka FR removes the virgin component: both the 51% olefin and the 49% polyester are recycled, and the cloth is still certified to EN 1021, IMO Part 8 and C&M.
Visually, the construction is a salt-and-pepper two-tone Uni — the olefin yarn carries one colour, the recycled polyester another, and the weave mixes them into a fine surface texture that catches light unevenly. The 395 g/m² weight is mid-light — easy to sew on curved frames, comfortable on shaped chairs and benches. 40,000 Martindale rubs at Class SC covers severe domestic and general contract use. 12 colours edited as a coherent natural-tone palette.
