Sumac FR Natural-Look Flame-Retardant Upholstery Fabric
Sumac FR is a heavy melange FR Uni with one of the more interesting fibre blends in the Kobe FR range — 52% polyacrylonitrile (PAN, the wool-feel acrylic), 19% recycled polyester, 16% viscose, 7% polyester and 6% linen. The small linen content is the differentiator: it gives the surface a slightly hairy, natural-fibre touch that the rest of the blend cannot deliver alone. The cloth reads warm and tactile, with melange-dyed yarn that mixes tones across the weave. 632 g/m² on 140 cm is heavy and substantial. 40,000 Martindale rubs (Class SC), EN 1021 / IMO Part 8 / C&M certified. 22 colours, 91 €/m.
Description
Sumac FR takes the natural-fibre FR concept one step further than its siblings (Pandan FR, Osmium FR) by adding a small amount of actual linen to the blend. The 6% linen content is small but it changes the visual and tactile character of the cloth noticeably: linen yarn is naturally hairy, irregular, and dyes with a slight unevenness that synthetic fibres miss. In the finished cloth that translates into a surface that reads as more organic, more “raw” than a pure synthetic FR Uni — useful in projects with a Scandinavian or Japandi-leaning brief where wool boucle would be too soft and a polyester chenille would be too smooth.
The rest of the blend handles the FR and durability: 52% PAN brings the dry wool-feel hand and helps with fire performance; 19% recycled polyester is the FR carrier and the recycled-content component; 16% viscose adds the soft, low-sheen lustre; 7% polyester is the structural binder. EN 1021-1/2, IMO Part 8 and C&M certified. 632 g/m² on 140 cm, 40,000 Martindale rubs (Class SC), pilling 4-5, rub fastness 4-5, light fastness 4-5, shrinkage 0.5%. 22 colours in a warm natural-tone palette.
