Pandan FR is a substantial FR Uni built around a four-fibre blend — 60% polyacrylonitrile (PAN), 22% P3 polyester, 9% cotton, 9% modacrylic — engineered to give a coarse, natural-fibre handle while still passing European contract fire compliance. At 730 g/m² it is one of the heaviest cloths in the Kobe FR catalogue: rustic, melange-dyed, structurally serious. The blend is deliberate: PAN brings the dry, woollen feel; polyester the FR carrier and abrasion; cotton lifts the surface with a natural touch; modacrylic strengthens the fire performance. 50,000 Martindale rubs (Class SC), certified to EN 1021, IMO Part 8 and C&M. 12 colours, 104 €/m.
Description
Pandan FR is in the small group of FR cloths that deliberately reach for a coarse, hand-spun-feeling natural look instead of the smoother surfaces typical of polyester-led FR fabrics. The four-fibre construction is the mechanism: each fibre contributes one specific property, and the combination gives the cloth its character without any single fibre being able to deliver it alone.
PAN (polyacrylonitrile, the acrylic family) is the largest component at 60% — it spins into yarn that feels close to wool, dyes into warm natural tones and behaves well dimensionally. P3 polyester (22%) is the FR carrier — the inherent flame retardancy lives in the polyester yarn. Cotton (9%) is small but matters: it lifts the surface with a soft natural-fibre touch that pure synthetic fabrics cannot replicate. Modacrylic (9%) is the final FR booster — modacrylic burns very reluctantly and reinforces the cloth’s fire performance across the certification stack: EN 1021-1/2, IMO Part 8, C&M. The 730 g/m² weight on 140 cm makes Pandan FR a substantial cloth — anchoring on long sofa backs and tall benches, photographing as a “real fabric” rather than as a thin upholstery sleeve. 50,000 Martindale rubs (Class SC), pilling 4, rub fastness 4-5. 12 colours in a warm cream / oat / earth-tone palette.
