Fennel FR Flame-Retardant Upholstery Fabric
Fennel FR is the value workhorse of the FR range — a soft, velvety chenille-hand Uni in 100% polyester with a price tag of 49 €/m and a Martindale rating that would be at home on a 100 €/m cloth. 80,000 Martindale rubs at Class SC is well above the threshold for severe contract use; pilling 4-5 and dry rub fastness 4-5 keep the surface looking new through heavy daily use. Inherent flame retardancy on EN 1021, IMO Part 8 and C&M. 409 g/m² on a 140 cm bolt is a mid-light weight — easy to upholster across complex frames, soft to the touch on chair backs and seat fronts. 22 colours, edited as a coherent contract palette.
Description
Fennel FR rebalances the usual price-to-spec equation. The standard expectation in FR upholstery is that the cheaper the cloth, the lower the Martindale rating — value FRs often sit at 30,000 to 40,000 rubs, fine for residential but not really contract. Fennel FR breaks that pattern: 49 €/m, but 80,000 Martindale rubs at Class SC — heavy contract territory. For an FR specification on a hotel chain, a healthcare ward or a public-space project where unit cost matters, Fennel FR is a useful answer.
The Uni weave gives it a chenille-like soft touch: 100% polyester yarn, but constructed with enough density to feel like a serious cloth rather than a thin commodity polyester. At 409 g/m² the weight is mid-light — that helps both with upholstery (easier to cut and sew on curved frames) and with the price (less material per square metre). Inherent flame retardancy on EN 1021, IMO Part 8 and C&M. Pilling 4-5, dry rub fastness 4-5, light fastness 5. 22 colours edited as a coherent contract palette spanning warm naturals, cool greys and accent colours.
