Elbe II Polyester-Linen Upholstery Fabric
Elbe II is the value-priced workhorse of Kobe's upholstery range — 95% polyester blended with 5% linen, woven as a reversible Uni with a coarse, natural-fibre look. The small linen content lifts the surface with a hairy, slightly irregular touch that pure polyester cannot replicate; the polyester majority delivers the abrasion resistance, dimensional stability and broad colour palette. The technical headline is the Martindale: 100,000 rubs at Class SC at 46 €/m — exceptional value for heavy contract abrasion. 505 g/m² on 140 cm is a substantial cloth that anchors well on long sofa backs and bench seats. 40 colours edited as a coherent natural-tone palette. Not flame-retardant.
Description
Elbe II rebalances the price-to-spec equation at the heavy-contract end of the Kobe range. Most cloths that deliver 100,000 Martindale rubs at Class SC sit at 80-110 €/m or higher — Elbe II delivers them at 46 €/m. The trade-off is the absence of FR certification — Elbe II is not flame-retardant, so it cannot be specified into UK or European hospitality contracts with fire compliance requirements — but for residential schemes, value-led contract projects (where FR is not the brief), and any project where the Martindale matters more than the certificate, Elbe II is an unusually strong proposition.
The 5% linen content gives Elbe II its visual character — coarse, slightly hairy, slightly uneven yarn surface that reads as natural fibre, not engineered polyester. The cloth is also reversible: both faces are usable, which simplifies cutting and reduces waste on slip-covers, bedheads and tailored cushions. 40 colours edited as a coherent natural-tone palette spanning warm naturals, neutrals and saturated accent tones. 505 g/m² on 140 cm, light fastness 5.
