Borax FR Flame-Retardant Upholstery Fabric
Borax FR is the heavy-duty workhorse of an FR Uni range — a 100% polyester upholstery fabric built for projects where the seat will be sat on, day after day, year after year. At 100,000 Martindale rubs (Class SC), Borax FR is rated at twice the abrasion of a typical contract cloth. Pilling 5 and dry/wet rub fastness 5 are the top of their respective scales, and light fastness 6-7 means colour holds in bright lobbies, restaurants and waiting rooms. The cloth itself is mid-light at 440 g/m² on a 140 cm bolt — uphost easier on shaped chairs and tight-curved sofas than a heavier wool blend. EN 1021, IMO Part 8 and C&M certified. 23 colours.
Description
Borax FR is a pure-spec contract Uni — the kind of fabric you choose when the brief reads “high-traffic public space” and the procurement spreadsheet needs hard numbers, not soft adjectives. The headline figure is the Martindale rating: 100,000 rubs at Class SC — that is twice the threshold for severe contract use, and four times the threshold for general domestic. In practice it means Borax FR is the fabric you spec for a hotel lobby sofa that is going to be sat on by a thousand people a week without surrender.
The rest of the technical sheet keeps pace. Pilling 5, dry rub fastness 5, wet rub fastness 5 — three maximums on the standard textile scales. Light fastness 6-7 sits at the top end and protects against the worst sun damage in conservatory-style spaces. Inherent flame retardancy is woven into the 100% polyester yarn — EN 1021, IMO Part 8 and C&M. At 440 g/m² on a 140 cm bolt the cloth is mid-light rather than heavy, which makes it easier to upholster on complex curved frames where a heavy boucle or wool blend would fight back. 23 colours — restrained, deliberately not loud.
